Today’s pick: Busan’s beloved breakfast — abalone porridge.
This spot has way more abalone than the average Busan shop — highly recommended!
Stick around to the end.

I headed to “Bada Maru” — a specialty abalone porridge shop near the eastern end of Haeundae Beach.

It’s just behind LCT (BUSAN X THE SKY), Haeundae’s landmark tower — about a 20-minute walk from Haeundae Station on Metro Line 2.

I went in around 8 AM on a Sunday.
There were several customers waiting outside, so I asked…
“Are you in line?”
And the answer was…
“Just waiting for our takeout.”
They were grabbing breakfast to bring home — so this place clearly has a strong local regular crowd.

It’s a small spot with 4 tables and 2 floor seats, but the walls are covered in signed celebrity boards.
You can tell plenty of famous faces have eaten here. Expectations: rising.

중 / Jung: medium, 소 / So: small
I ordered the medium, though the “Special” caught my eye.
It says “Special” rather than “Extra Large,” so…
“Maybe it’s not bigger — maybe it just has more abalone?”
Speculation runs wild.

About a 10-minute wait from ordering…
(That’s a long-ish wait by Korean standards.)
And here comes the abalone porridge!
First impression: this thing is BIG.

Abalone porridge has that signature greenish hue!
“I always wonder if this looks appetizing to first-timers…”
Just a passing thought.

Heads up: the abalone wasn’t very visible at first, so I rearranged it slightly for the blog photo, ha!
(Honestly… I didn’t need to.)

Started with the porridge itself — it’s so hot the camera lens kept fogging up!
Deeply savory with that briny ocean note — a distinctly Korean flavor you won’t get back home.
Oh wow.
This is seriously delicious.

The abalone has that perfect chewy snap, and it tastes amazing.
Then I noticed something strange about this porridge…

The deeper I dug, the more abalone kept appearing…
Wait, what?!
Is this infinite abalone porridge?!

At first only a sliver of abalone was visible — but this much abalone was hiding inside!
A certain popular chain just puts a few slices of abalone on top of the porridge — the value here is on another level.
Delicious, generous, and you can take in views of Haeundae Beach while you eat — a genuinely happy abalone-porridge breakfast.
If you’re staying in Haeundae, please, please, please try Bada Maru’s abalone porridge!
The ultimate breakfast pick!
