Ask anyone in Busan “where do I go for Dwaeji-gukbap (pork-and-rice soup)?” and one name that always comes up is “Sandungi Dwaeji-gukbap” (쌍둥이 돼지국밥). The Sajik branch sits near Exit 1 of Sajik Station (사직역) on Metro Line 3 — and is literally just steps from Asiad Main Stadium, the BTS WORLD TOUR ARIRANG venue. Locals call it the #1 Dwaeji-gukbap in Busan.

“Sandungi (쌍둥이)” means “twins” in Korean — look for the twin pig characters on the sign. It’s a bit off the typical tourist track (Seomyeon, etc.), which is exactly why it’s packed with locals. We went on a weekday lunch and the place was nearly full.

Here’s the banchan (side dishes). The salted shrimp (saeu-jeot) is used to adjust the saltiness of the Dwaeji-gukbap.

And here’s the Dwaeji-gukbap. A milky-white broth that already looks rich and concentrated.

Before you eat, one quick step. Stir in the “dadaegi” (spicy seasoning paste) sitting at the bottom of the bowl and tune the saltiness with the salted shrimp. That’s the standard Busan way.

Once the soup is dialed in, pile in the rice and a generous amount of garlic chives!

Time to dig in. The broth is mellow and smooth on the palate, yet packs serious depth and umami — clearly a cut above other spots.
The signature pork aroma of Dwaeji-gukbap is on the stronger side here, which is a love-it-or-leave-it thing — if a pronounced pork scent isn’t for you, keep that in mind. But the richness and umami of this broth are no joke. If you’re a Dwaeji-gukbap fan, you owe yourself a bowl. Locals say the Daeyeon main branch (Metro Line 2) is even more popular, so pick whichever fits your route.
Recommendation: ★★★☆☆
If you’re hunting for a quintessential Busan bowl — and especially if you’re heading to Asiad Stadium for the concert — head to Sandungi Dwaeji-gukbap. Pick whichever branch fits your route!
